What Are Your Wishes For The New Year?

What are your wishes for the new year?

This New Year hits differently for me as it’s a year of transitions for my family.

As I mentioned in a previous post, my Marine son just left for an overseas posting that will see him far from home for the next three years.  My oldest daughter will be graduating from college and taking a job in another state, and my youngest will continue her second year in college.  I’m proud of my kids and love to see them excelling but I’m also sad because I’m not sure when my family will all be together again.

Our church has an amazing end of year tradition.  On one of the last Sundays of the month, everyone in the congregation is encouraged to write down one word that you feel like God has given you for the upcoming year.  When we were sitting in church last Sunday, my wife and I compared words only to find that we’d both settled on the same one.

Trust.

One of my favorite Bible verses was written by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the church of Philippi.  It reads in part “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6).

This is what I’m trusting in the New Year—that God will continue the good works he’s begun in me, my family, my friends, and all of you.

This is my New Year’s wish.
