Q: Do you know any Rangers personally? I’m asking because Fred is freakin' awesome and the interactions between him, Mitch and then Scott were hilarious. Great stuff, definitely nailed the competitiveness between teams.
Thank you so much! While I never served in the Ranger Regiment, many of my friends did. In fact, the characters Brandon Cates, Greg Glass, and Jeff Mishler were all based on real life Rangers who served in the same company during the initial invasion of Afghanistan and who lost friends and fellow Rangers during the tragic Battle of Roberts Ridge. Fred is another friend, and while he didn’t serve in the Ranger Regiment, he is Ranger qualified and was a decorated infantryman who served in Iraq. Brandon, Greg, Jeff and I all worked together at a small veteran owned company for a couple of years, and Brandon and Greg continue to be two of my best friends to this day. Hanging out with them provided me with an insider’s view into life as an Army Ranger as well as an endless supply of Navy SEAL jokes. Both were put to good use in Capture Or Kill!
