I am a former Army Officer, veteran of OEF and OIF. Now I am a high school history teacher and football coach.
When did you start reading Mitch Rapp?
In 2017, when coworkers were talking about the movie American Assassin and how it changed from the book. I had heard good things about Vince Flynn's books, but I was always busy as a grad student, teacher, coach, and dad, so reading was a luxury. I have listened to more books than I have read because of the time factor. I listen to them when I work out and drive, so I have to listen to them multiple times to completely retain all the details. The first book I read was American Assassin, and I have either read or listened to them in order. I have all of them on my Audible account, including Term Limits.
Which book is your favorite?
The first is always special, but I have an affinity for Transfer Of Power as that was the true start of the Rapp verse for Flynn and The Last Man because that was VF's final book. The Survivor because how how Kyle picked it up and added his flair. I loved how Stan died , an honorable death and how Mitch carried him off the battlefield and they kept him a freezer with a cigarette in his hands. The addition of Bentley has been great. I can appreciate his addition as I have listened to the Matt Drake novels and the Ryanverse novels he has written. I knew instantly it was him and not Mills or Flynn when he wrote in depth about Army aviation!
Do you have a favorite character and why?
Hurley, Coleman, and Charlie Wick for different reasons. Hurley reminds of so many old school NCO's. Coleman because he's so hard-nosed and loyal. The fear that he put in the FBI made me laugh... "a tire iron! " Charlie Wick reminds me of so many soldiers, smaller stature with a big heart and a killer instinct.
If you could be any character in Vince's novels, who would it be and why?
Who wouldn't want to be Mitch? Other than Mitch, either Hurley, Coleman, or Charlie Wick.
