Vince Answers Your Questions

December 2011

Is it true that the names of the characters in your books the names of real people in Minnesota?
That is often the case, but only a few occasions have I actually used someone's first and last name.

How did you take the news about not being able to enlist in the Marine Corps?
Not well, but I used it to motivate me to succeed as a writer.  I never wanted to experience that feeling again.

I've just discovered your books and feel that I have missed out over the years. I've read two of them now but was wondering: Is there one of your books that you particularly enjoyed writing or do you have a "favorite?"
It's like asking me which of my three kids I like the most... I'll never tell.

I found your name [such is fame] reading Bishop Shannon's essays of a college president, in which he refers to Fr. Vincent Flynn. Are you related?
I am not related, but I was named after Fr. Vincent Joseph Flynn.  My father knew him and with five boys in the family, why not name one after a priest.

What's in Vince's iPod?
Collective Soul, Semisonic, The Killers and Dwight Yoakam.

What's Vince Reading?
I finished book five of the Game of Thrones series and it was not as good as the first four.  I also watched season one of the series on HBO and it was amazing... as good as anything I've ever seen on Cable.  I'm rereading American Assassin just to make sure I have the facts right in Kill Shot.  I'm looking for a good nonfiction read.  If you have any suggestions let me know.  Otherwise I will probably start Catherine the Great by Robert K. Massie.

What's Vince DVR'ing?
Modern Family (the funniest show on television), The Middle, Mike and Molly and Walking Dead.
